Into the Design Lab - N.C. Wyeth
In this presentation you'll get a short biography of the American illustrator, N.C. Wyeth, and a quick look at his teacher, Howard Pyle. We'll address some of Wyeth's challenges with the "practical nature" of illustration in "expressing an outward thought", and do a deep dive into the lab to take an analytical look at various visual tools Wyeth used to communicate within the parameters of illustration.
We'll also look at his unique framing to create panels within his illustrations that allowed him to tell a story like a comic book. For these reasons I believe that N.C. Wyeth is one of the innovative and influential visual communicators of the 20th Century.
*NOTE: If you're doing illustration work, you must see this video. I demonstrate how some of the lessons learned in the middle ages influenced this master illustrator... it will change the way you approach your book illustration work.
You'll get a quick bio, history, and an analytical break down of the visual tools N.C. Wyeth used in his illustrations.
